Choir

VOCAL JAZZ

The student will perform in the community and throughout the northwest, nation, and world as the most outstanding representation of vocal music at WHS. The student will rehearse and perform a variety of jazz music including blues, latin, swing, jazz ballad, etc. Emphasis will be the jazz genre. This ensemble sings one-on-a-mic and requires the student to have strong ability to sing part independently. This choir will perform three major concerts, a contest, and various small performances throughout the school year. This ensemble travels every year.

CHAMBER SINGERS

The student will perform in the community and throughout the northwest, nation, and world as the most outstanding representation of vocal music at WHS. The students will rehearse and perform a variety of music. Emphasis will be on art music, although other styles may also be explored. This choir will perform three major concerts, a contest, and various small performances throughout the school year.

BEL CANTO

This course will continue to improve the student’s vocal skills and musicianship. The student will rehearse and perform a variety of music, emphasis will be on art music, although other styles may also be explored. This ensemble is considered the JV ensemble of the vocal department. This choir will perform three major concerts, a contest, and various small performances throughout the school year.

BASS CLEF SINGERS

This ensemble is for Tenor and Bass voices only. This course will improve the student’s singing and reading skills. The student will rehearse and perform a variety of modern and standard tenor, baritone, and bass vocal literature. This choir will perform three major concerts, a contest, and various small performances throughout the school year. It will also serve as a training group for Bel Canto Singers, Chamber Singers and Vocal Jazz Singers. Bass Clef Choir may be combined with Treble Clef Choir dependent upon enrollment numbers.

TREBLE CLEF SINGERS

This ensemble is for Soprano and Alto voices only. This course will improve the student’s singing and reading skills. The student will rehearse and perform a variety of modern and standard soprano, mezzo, and alto vocal literature. This choir will perform three major concerts, a contest, and various small performances throughout the school year. It will also serve as a training group for Bel Canto Singers, Chamber Singers and Vocal Jazz Singers. Treble Clef Choir may be combined with Bass Clef Choir dependent upon enrollment numbers.
