The AVID® mission:
Help students who face barriers to college admission due to their first-generation, gender, ethnic, or economic status achieve admission to a 4-year college or university by attaining the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to complete their degree.

The core values of the AVID® Elective are Grit/Resiliency, Self-advocacy, and Collaboration. 

We will help students build a strong sense of these values,  effective practices in each of these areas, and an understanding of their importance in our everyday lives. We do this by teaching and practicing the following behaviors:

  • Everyone works to achieve the best possible outcome
  • Everyone values each other’s perspective
  • Everyone is in control of their emotional responses
  • Everyone creates positive changes in the world around us
